Hanna Brooks | Katie Kittermaster| Joe Boyd. iSing Magazine looks at a few emerging music artists each month.
After a busy 2017 gigging on the Sofar Sounds scene, singer songwriter Hana Brooks has released a new single, Used To Be. The track, mixed by Nick Bennett (London Grammar, Asgeir, Zak Able), marks a slight shift for Brooks. While her previous work was quite rock focused, Used To Be blends Brooks’ trademark heartfelt vocals with urban beats, bass and synths.
If you like what you hear you can catch Brooks at The Troubadour in Earls Court. After playing at the legendary London venue in December she was offered a monthly residency.
When Kent teenager Katie Kittermaster isn’t engrossed in her schoolbooks, she’s busy making her mark on the music industry. The 17-year-old A-Level student writes her own music – fresh pop with sharp lyrics – and has released two singles, Can You Hear Me and Kaleidoscope, both of which have received airplay on BBC 3 Counties and BBC Radio Kent.
The singer songwriter has also been named a semi-finalist in the teen category of the International Songwriting Competition. Kittermaster has a depth of performing experience. She performed for Ricky Martin, 50 Cent and Eva Longoria at a gala event in Dubai and more recently sang at The Bedford in Balham and The Big Day Out. Kittermaster is signed with a management company and cites top vocal coach Joshua Alamu (Fleur East, Little Mix and Louisa Johnson) as a mentor.
Joe Boyd’s latest EP Nightcrawling is a catchy, funky offering inspired by a late-night driving session listening to the radio.
Boyd (not to be confused with the US mega producer of the same name) has spent the past six years making a name for himself on the UK scene, gigging at prestigious venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and the Jazz Café and sharing a stage with the likes of Mark Ronson and Pendulum. The soul/funk performer has also enjoyed radio play on BBC 6 Music and XFM.
