Eminem criticised the powerful US gun lobby during a performance at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards.
When the rapper performed Nowhere Fast with Kehlani at the awards ceremony earlier this week he included lyrics critical of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Eminem rapped: “This whole country is going nuts/ And the NRA is in our way/ They’re responsible for this whole production/ They hold the strings, they control the puppet.”
Later on, he rapped: “Gun owners clutching their loaded weapons, they love their guns more than our children.”
Eminem was welcomed to the stage at The Forum in LA by Alex Moscou, a survivor of the recent massacre at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida where 17 students and teachers were gunned down.
Alex told the audience: “We’re tired of hearing politicians send their thoughts and prayers to us and doing nothing to make the necessary changes to prevent this tragedy from happening again.”
Eminem isn’t the only artist to call for gun control in recent years. Following the 2017 tragic Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas, where a lone gunman killed 58 music fans, Tim McGraw, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift were among the stars who called for stronger gun control laws.
