Dua Lipa, Kacey Musgraves and Lady Gaga win Grammys

Grammys 2019: A host of female stars including Cardi B, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Ariana Grande and St Vincent took home awards.

Dua Lipa and Ella Mai flew the flag for Britain, with both with both picking up awards at what turned out to be a bumper night for female singers all round.

Lipa was named Best New Artist while Mai 2019 won Best R’n’B Song for Boo’d Up.

It was refreshing to see so much great female talent take centre stage – even Michelle Obama made an appearance joining Jada Pinkett, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Lopez on stage.

Country golden girl Kacey Musgraves had a particularly good night, winning Grammys for Best Album (Golden Hour), Best Country Song (Space Cowboy) and Best Country Solo Performance (Butterflies).

Cardi B won Best Rap Album (Invasion of Privacy), St Vincent Best Rock Song (Masseduction), Ariana Grande Best Pop Vocal Album (Sweetener) and Cécile McLorin Salvant Best Jazz Vocal for The Window.

Lady Gaga won two prizes: Best Pop Solo Performance (Joanne) and, with Bradley Cooper, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Shallow.

In other awards, Record Of The Year and Song of the Year went to Childish Gambino (This is America). Drake won Best Rap Song (God’s Plan).

Sting and Shaggy won Best Reggae Album with 44/876 (yes, we never thought we’d write that sentence either!).
