Brit Awards 2019: Anne Marie scores four nominations

Brit Awards 2019

Anne Marie’s four nominations in the Brit Awards 2019 have confirmed her place as an established star on the UK music scene.

The Essex singer-songwriter is nominated in the prestigious British Female and British Album categories and is also up for British Video and British Single.

The only other artist with the same number of nominations is Dua Lipa, already one of Britain’s most bankable pop stars.

Anne Marie’s career has been steadily building momentum over the past few years. But her showing in the Brit Awards 2019 nominations demonstrates she has now arrived.

The Tilbury singer-songwriter, who appeared in two major West End productions as a child and is a karate black belt (yes really), broke through in 2013 as a guest vocalist on dance tracks. But after initial success she pulled back from pursuing a solo career to join drum and bass collective Rudimental on tour.

She earnt her singing and touring chops on the road with the band and later recorded with them.

Since then Anne Marie has become an established artist in her own right, lauded for her strong, sassy vocals. She topped the charts last year with her album Speak Your Mind and hit single 2002 (co-written with her buddy Ed Sheeran). Her latest hit is a cover of Re-write The Stars (from The Greatest Showman).

This year’s Brit nominations also recognised rising female stars Jorja Smith, nominated for British Breakthrough, British Album (Lost & Found) and British Female, and Ella Mai, British Breakthrough.

Meanwhile George Ezra capped off a stellar 12 months with three nominations.
